Where to Find Equipment

  • Water Bottle: Hydration is very important during games and practices. Please make sure to send your player to all softball activities with a water bottle

  • Softball glove – Each player needs their own glove. Softball and baseball gloves look similar but they are indeed different.

  • Softball bat – Each player needs a bat. Spring and fall travel require all bats to include the USSSA 1.20 certification thumbprint stamp. Bats are to be light enough that a player can swing from shoulder to shoulder without any dipping in their swing. Use the included image to help you get the correct size.

  • Batting helmet – Batting helmets with a metal cage are required for all ages. When fitting a helmet: you want the helmet to fit tight but comfortable; you need a little wiggle room and the cage to completely cover the face. They are available as a combo cage/helmet or for more customization, you can buy the helmet and guard separately and attach them yourself.

  • Fielding face guards** – Fielding face guards are required for all players ages 7-18. The braids (ages 3-6) division requires facemasks for only the pitcher and first baseman. They will help protect players when fielding line drives and pop flies. Metal and plastic are both allowed. *** What is commonly heard by the girls is that the metal ones are heavier but have a better field of vision.

  • Softball cleats** – It’s suggested that all players wear cleats to help with the footing on the fields, particularly when there may be some moisture around. Cleats must be rubber cleats, not steel. For Spring and Fall, divisions, players must wear cleats.

  • Softball Pants  - The Harvard Walmart usually has these in stock starting at $8.88 a pair and carry black, grey, and white. Pants are required, and shorts are not allowed.

  • Backpack or Softball Bag to store their equipment and water bottle

  • Sliding pads that go under the pants

  • Batting gloves – Optional. Softball batting gloves will help a player keep their grip on the bat, their hand in their gloves, and generally protect the hand during the game. They come in many sizes and colors

****Player safety is paramount. Failure to comply with the above requirements regarding metal cleats, helmets with metal cages and fielder facemasks will result in the player being sent home until the correct equipment is in place. The only players not required to wear a fielder face mask are in the 3-6-year-old braids division. In the braids, the pitcher and first baseman wear face masks and every batter wears a helmet with a metal cage. The pants rule is loose for the braids division (ages 3-6) but a strict requirement for 7-18.
